Weekend Max Mara
Milanese fine art photographer Micol Sabbadini has dipped into her visual archive to create a breezy, summer-centric capsule collection for Weekend Max Mara. Known for her striking images of exotic locales, Sabbadini has drawn on the sun-drenched imagery of the Aegean Islands for this collection. Photographs, taken in stolen moments during her travels, of white- washed houses, lazily drifting boats, intricate mosaics and luscious Mediterranean peonies are thoughtfully collaged or transformed into stunning patterns by the artist. Twelve Weekend Max Mara-designed pieces will receive this visual treatment from her photographic eye: dresses, trousers, shirts, skirts and accessories in shifting shades of white, blue and pink. “The mood of this collection," Sabbadini describes of the inspiration behind the collaboration, “is European summer — coastal houses in Greece, sailboats in the sea and snatches of text I find wandering around with my camera on days off."
The twelve pieces featured in the collection were designed with long, carefree days in mind. The images were designed specifically for the cut of three of these garments, treating each piece like one of Sabbadini’s artworks. A cotton poplin menswear-style shirt is collaged with digitally printed sailboats bordered with peonies and mosaic patterns. A Silk Crêpe de Chine T-shirt, with Cotton Jersey sleeves and back, is printed with similar floral motifs and emblazoned with found text. A voluminous, 50s-inspired high waisted skirt in cotton poplin features whitewashed houses, glimpses of the sea and oversized peonies. An all-over floral pattern can be found on a pair of wide-leg, high-waisted trousers in Crêpe de Chine and a full- length shirt dress in cotton poplin.

Micol Sabbadini, fotografa di fine art, si è immersa nel suo archivio visivo per creare una capsule collection allegra e solare in collaborazione con Weekend Max Mara. Nota per le sue straordinarie immagini di scenari esotici, Micol ha pensato all’iconografia solare delle Isole del mare Egeo. Fotografie scattate in momenti rubati durante i suoi viaggi: case bianco-calce, barche che si dirigono pigramente alla deriva, intricati mosaici e lussureggianti peonie mediterranee sono unite, combinate e trasformate dall'artista in pattern stupendi. Sono dodici i pezzi di Weekend Max Mara interpretati dal suo occhio fotografico: abiti, pantaloni, camicie, gonne e accessori in sfumature di bianco, blu e rosa. “Il mood di questa collezione”, dice Sabbadini descrivendo l'ispirazione alla base della collaborazione, “è l'estate europea — le case della Grecia, le barche a vela sul mare e i frammenti di testo che trovo girovagando con la mia fotocamera quando non lavoro.”
Meanwhile, a similar pattern featuring a blue and white floral motif, sailboats and ‘LOVE’ boldly written in red adorns a full-length Crêpe de Chine t- shirt dress, kick-flare Capri trousers in satin cotton stretch and a 50s-style shirt dress with a full, half-wheel skirt. Creamy silk foulard scarves and iconic Weekend Max Mara Pasticcino bags will also receive the all-over-print treatment from Sabbadini.
"I loved this project," Sabbadini says about the collaboration with Weekend Max Mara, "using my photography archive in this way was greatly inspiring." Between Sabbadini’s dreamy images and Weekend Max Mara’s chicly understated silhouettes and luxuriously rendered fabrics, the capsule collection’s Mediterranean vibe seems second nature to the newfound collaborators. But for Sabbadini, it was the opportunity to work in an entirely different medium that was most rewarding, "it was an amazing learning experience and super fun,” she reveals about the partnership, “I was given freedom to make something true to my aesthetic."

La collezione è stata disegnata pensando a lunghe giornate spensierate. Le composizioni sono state ideate specificamente per tre dei capi di questa capsule collection, trattando ogni pezzo come fosse un’opera d’arte. Sulla camicia maschile di popeline di cotone compare un collage con barche a vela, contornate da peonie e mosaici. La t-shirt in crêpe de chine, con maniche e retro in jersey di cotone, è stata stampata con motivi floreali tipici delle maioliche abbinati alla fotografia del testo di una canzone scoperta sul muro di una casa. Sulla gonna in popeline di cotone a vita alta ispirata agli anni ’50, compaiono case bianco-calce, brevi scorci di mare e peonie. Un disegno floreale si ritrova sui pantaloni palazzo in crêpe de chine e sull’abito chemisier in popeline di cotone. Il disegno caratterizzato da un motivo floreale bianco e blu, barche a vela e da un’audace scritta ‘LOVE’ in rosso adorna l’abito t-shirt in crêpe de chine e i pantaloni Capri in cotone di raso stretch. Anche i foulard in seta e le Pasticcino Bag, borse iconiche di Weekend Max Mara, sono state realizzate con le stampe di Micol.
“Amo questo progetto,” racconta Micol parlando della collaborazione con Weekend Max Mara, “utilizzare il mio archivio fotografico per la realizzazione di questa collezione è stato di grande ispirazione.” Per la fotografa, è stata anche l'occasione per lavorare in una realtà, quella della moda, completamente differente. “È stata un'esperienza entusiasmante e decisamente divertente,” rivela della partnership, “sono stata libera di creare qualcosa che fosse fedele alla mia estetica.”
